How Foosh plans to reduce food waste in the Netherlands

Imagine making a pot of soup and finding you have more than you can eat. A few doors away, someone would love a portion. Perhaps you only know each other from a nod in the street. Foosh begins with that thought: what if having food to spare could be the start of something good between neighbours? We are building an app to make that easier in the Netherlands.

There is care behind our food

A loaf has been kneaded and baked. Vegetables have been grown, harvested and brought to a shop. A home-cooked meal holds the time of someone who stood in a kitchen preparing it. When good food is thrown away, some of that effort goes with it.

But weeks do not always go as planned. Dinner gets cancelled, groceries turn out to be too much, or you cook an extra portion out of habit. At those moments, Foosh wants to make it easier to ask a neighbour: I have something to spare. Would you enjoy it?

A short journey, a thoughtful gesture

We want to help neighbours in the Netherlands find surplus meals and groceries close to home. The planned experience is simple: browse an offer, read the details, reserve a pickup time and collect the food.

Think of a small detour on your bike ride home, or a walk to someone in the next street. Our hope is that sharing will fit into the life you already lead. And that there will be room at the doorstep for a thank-you, a name, and perhaps a longer conversation next time.

A neighbourhood where giving and receiving feel natural

Foosh is being built for neighbours and local businesses, including cafés and community kitchens. We hope to help more good food reach someone who will enjoy it. Whether home is a busy Dutch city neighbourhood or a village, we want to make it easier to find each other.

Anyone can have something left over. Anyone can appreciate something another person shares. Today you might collect a meal; another day you might pass something on. That is the kind of neighbourhood we hope to support: one where it feels comfortable to give, and to receive.

Sharing with care, one step at a time

Thoughtful sharing means caring about the person who receives the food. Only offer food that is still safe to eat. Shop with a plan, use what you need and think early about anything that will genuinely be left over.

Foosh is still in development, so we cannot yet tell you how much food we have saved together. What we do have is a clear hope: that more good food will be collected and eaten, and that people in the Netherlands will feel a little more connected to their neighbours along the way.

Perhaps it will start at your doorstep

We imagine neighbourhoods where seeing food left over brings someone else to mind. Where passing on a container of food becomes a small, familiar act of kindness.
